ISLAMABAD/HAVANA: The fourth round of bilateral consultations between Pakistan and Cuba concluded on Friday as the two sides exchanged views on important global and regional developments.
Pakistani Additional Foreign Secretary Dr Asad Khan led the Pakistani delegation, who was assisted by Ambassador Kamran Shafi. The Cuban delegation was headed by Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Abelardo Moreno.
During his stay in Havana, Khan called on Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Marcelino Medina Gonzalez, Foreign Trade and Investment Deputy Minister Ileana Nunez Mordoche and Health Vice Minister Marcia Cobas Ruiz.
A Foreign Ministry statement issued on Friday said that during the meetings, a whole range of bilateral issues and key areas of interest came under discussion. Both sides noted with satisfaction the similarity of views on different global and regional issues and expressed appreciation over arrangements the two countries had made at the forum.
Recognising important gains made for strengthening bilateral cooperation over the last decade, both delegations acknowledged that the potential for further growth through cooperation was tremendous and should be optimally harnessed. A range of specific proposals for promoting bilateral trade and investment and enhancing cooperation on education, health, science and technology were reviewed.
The Cuban delegation was apprised of Pakistan’s plans to celebrate Pakistan Cultural Week in March 2017, which would lay the foundation of bilateral cultural cooperation. Appreciating Cuba’s invaluable support and humanitarian contributions during the 2005 earthquake, Pakistan emphasized on the need for greater institutional cooperation in disaster management.
