ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan has summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh on Tuesday for the second consecutive day over the unprovoked firing at the Line of Control (LoC).
The FO spokesperson stated that JP Singh was protested with over violation of the ceasefire treaty and the maritime boundary – a protest dossier was also handed over to him.
India has resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling in different sectors including Karela, Jadroot, Baroh among others on Monday – which claimed at least four civilians’ lives and injured ten.
New Delhi’s government had switched to a ‘war mode’ since September after accusing Pakistan of carrying out an attack on an Indian army base that claimed 19 lives.
India then claimed of carrying out a surgical strike inside Pakistani territory – in the following days – but the Indian Director General of Military Operations’ (DGMO) statement was ridiculed as no evidence was found.
Last week, an Indian submarine was detected in Pakistani waters and was forced by the Pakistan Navy to disclose its location and retreat.
The spokesman also condemned the violation of Pakistan’s Maritime Exclusive Economic Zone by the Indian submarine – which is in violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
He urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding and UNCLOS and instructed the Indian authorities to respect the ceasefire and international borders in letter and spirit.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Tuesday told the Senate that at least 30 civilians – including women and children – have been killed during the recent LoC violations by India and the Pakistani forces have been responding to unprovoked Indian aggression in equal measure – effectively targeting the Indian posts.
