ISLAMABAD: PTI central leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that a common way should be chartered out on Panama leaks issue.
He warned that if this is not done then the opposition and people will be compelled to come out on the streets. “Parliament is the first forum to deal with Panama leaks disclosures. If no solution is found and we fail to evolve a joint strategy then the chief justice should take suo motu notice of the issue.” Qureshi said his party has come to the parliament by pursuing a democratic way. Talking to media here on Friday outside the Parliament House, he said the government and opposition have agreed on the formation of a committee on Panama leaks issue. Qureshi questioned the status and nature of the commission. “The prime minister has proposed that the committee will be headed by a retired judge, however, the proposal has been rejected by the opposition and the Supreme Court Bar Association,” he said. “We have proposed the form a committee in the House on the issue to determine the scope of the commission. We have proposed that the probe into the leaks should be conducted by a commission headed by the chief justice. Forensic experts and an international firm should also assist the commission,” he said. The PTI leader observed that reports of commissions constituted in the past were never made public. “We cannot give indefinite time for preparation of a report by the commission,” he said while adding that the people’s attention cannot be deflected from Panama leaks by raising the issue of Shaukat Khanum Hospital. “One segment of society is becoming rich due to political corruption and other is getting poor,” he said.
