NEW DELHI: India has invited Pakistan to the Sou
th Asian
Speakers Summit being held in Indore next month.
However, while quoting top government officials, the Indian media said Pakistan has declined the invitation.
Other Sou
th Asian nations, all members of SAARC, have confirmed their participation for the summit on achieving sustainable development goals.
The conference will be held on February 18-19th
by Indian Parliament and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Indore.
This would be the first high-level engagement among Sou
th Asian nations since the cancellation of the SAARC summit which was to be held in Islamab
ad in November last year.
Soon after a terror attack on Indian soldiers in Indian-held Kashmir’s Uri sector – apparently an “inside job” – India had forced several other countries to withdraw from the summit.
In 2015, threatened to
boycott a conference of speakers organised under the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union.
