ISLAMABAD – Opposition leader in Senate Aitezaz Ahsan on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to declare all of his assets to defuse the crisis sparked by Panama Papers.
“If the prime minister declares his and his family’s assets, there will be no need to form an inquiry commission,” he said while talking to journalists along with National Assembly opposition leader Khurshid Shah and ANP leader Ghulam Ahmed Bilour.
“What’s the harm in declaring the assets, if they were acquired in a transparent manner,” he said. He further said that the inquiry into Panama Papers should begin from the prime minister’s family. He said that there is a need to take assistance of international forensic experts to investigate the revelations.
Responding to Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif’s statement regarding corruption, Aitezaz said had the prime minister not delayed the matter of constituting the inquiry commission, the army chief would not have given such statements.
On the occasion, the ANP leader demanded the government to form a chief justice-led commission for the Panama Papers investigation.
